System Description

Guardian^® RT is a continuous glucose monitor, providing real time glycaemic values and settable alarms to people with diabetes who want better insight into glycaemic patterns.

Easy to use and wear

A glucose sensor is inserted in subcutaneous tissue, usually in the abdominal area. A special insertion device, called the Sen-serter^® allows optimal and easy insertion of the subcutaneous sensor. It makes the insertion virtually painless and assures the best positioning of the sensor. The patient wears the same sensor for up to 3 days during normal activities.

The sensor is connected to a waterproof transmitter which is taped to the skin with a soft adhesive and is flat enough to be worn discreetly under clothing. The transmitter receives glucose readings from the sensor and wirelessly transmits data to the monitor over a distance of up to 2 meters giving the user freedom and comfort of use.

Guardian^® RT monitor provides around-the-clock glycemic values, which allow the user to react to potentially dangerous increasing or decreasing trends.

Together with your patient you can set desired glucose target ranges and the system will sound an alarm if the glucose readings fall out of range. The alarms can be set to either sound or vibrate modes.

Guardian^® RT can be used by people with diabetes of all ages. The device is comfortable enough for a child to wear and discrete enough for adults.

A powerful 'diabetes diary' to share information

People using Guardian^® RT have the opportunity to use it as a powerful 'diabetes diary', storing up to 21 days of data. They can easily enter their finger prick values, insulin doses (in U), the amount of carbohydrate per meal, the time spent exercising and 'other' events into Guardian^® RT.

The data can then be downloaded into a personal computer using a Com-Station and the Guardian^® RT software will comprehensively display the relationship between the patient's activities and his/her glycaemic control throughout the days.

The Guardian^® RT system opens your eyes to everything your patients' blood glucose levels are doing between finger stick tests.

The information is organized in easy-to-read charts, graphs and tables for analysis of the patients' glucose profiles. Several curves can be placed on top of each other to detect glucose trends.

Guardian^® RT will assist the healthcare team in making faster decisions for treatment adjustment based on informed clinical judgment on the information received in addition to A1c value.
