Jane: patient case

Unexpected doesn't need to be unexplained

Jane's story

Jane Wright, a 38 year-old woman with no prior history of cardiac disease fainted when driving her daughter Amber to school and experienced dizzy spells in the weeks after. Fearing the safety of her child and no longer feeling confident, she stopped driving. She consulted her physician about her symptoms.

Numerous tests were conducted, but due to inconclusive findings, her physician was unable to make a diagnosis and advised life-style changes.

All tests inconclusive

24h Holter Monitor and ECG -> normal
Carotid Sinus Massage -> negative
EP study -> negative
Tilt Table Test -> negative

Remaining questions

What is the cause of Jane's fainting episodes?
Will she experience a new event and when?
Is she at risk for cardiac arrhythmias?

Next step

Four months later she fainted again. A Reveal DX was implanted to help find a cause for her unexplained fainting.

Reveal explains

Five months after implant Jane fainted again. Reveal’s auto-activation captured a 12 second asystolic pause. Via patient activation Jane also recorded this event, allowing her physician to uncover the symptom-rhythm correlation. From the recorded ECG, the physician could determine that his patient suffered from bradycardia – a Class I indication for a pacemaker.
