The following images are made available to provide reporters with visual resources on the range of Medtronic therapies and the conditions they treat.

Photo Caption:
The Medtronic Maximo® implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) is a high-output device with the most advanced combination of delivered energy and features in the industry. The Maximo ICD is built on the platform of the Medtronic Marquis ICD, the world’s most implanted defibrillator, and adds the clinical benefits of 35 joules of delivered energy. Among the many features are: small size, the fastest charge times throughout the life of the device, and all of the Marquis safety features that doctors need to optimally manage their ICD patients. Available in both single-chamber and dual-chamber models, the Maximo ICD has a longevity of between 8-10 years. ICDs are stop-watch sized devices that continually monitor the heart and deliver appropriate therapy when an abnormal heart rhythm is detected. They have been proven to be 99 percent effective in treating dangerous ventricular arrhythmias that can lead to sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). SCA kills 450,000 people in the United States each year, the nation’s single leading cause of death.
